The Boston Celtics organization accompanied by New England Patriot Tom Brady, attempted to apply the full court press on Kevin Durant. Danny Ainge and the Celtics unfortunately came up short as Durant announced at around noon on July 4th that he would be signing with the Golden State Warriors. A move that I personally think shows the lack of personal leadership that seems to be at the forefront of the attributes of these players today. Not many players these days seem to like a challenge such as taking the lead with a team to a Championship, or having a banner team formed around a true leader, the way Michael Jordan did it. Today I see a league run by players, NOT owners. I see many of these athletes held high on a pedestal simply because they are paid athletes. These are the same athletes are supposed to be idols and role models for the youth around the world. As a parent to a 6 year old little boy, I make sure to point out to him how acting like a child on a basketball court (or off it even) is nothing a role model should do. Now I completely understand these players have every right to pick where they want to play, but to me i see a lack integrity, honor and most of all the ability to be effective leaders. I also would like to mention this is not what I see from all players, however it seems to me that it is the ones who think they are bigger than the game itself are those whom I speak of. Unfortunately I think this is contagious and many seem to be catching that bigger than the game feel that in my opinion has kept the NBA from making that next great step. End of rant.
